This plan covers the cost of attending the group tea ceremony and the cost of hiring a kimono for a day from the Kimono Rental Shop. It also includes the cost of having your hair set in one of 8 different hairstyle and a full fave make up. In addition it covers the cost of hiring a professional photographer who will come to the Grand Tea Room to take a photoshoot of you for 15 minutes at the end of the tea ceremony workshop.

Once we confirm your booking we will send you an electronic coupon that you can use to hire the kimono.

You will need to be at the Kimono Rental Shop at least two hour before attending the tea ceremony. The time required for you to choose your kimono, from the large selection available to choose from, and the time required to dress you, do your hairstyle and makeup will be about 2 hours therefore we recommend that you should be at Yumeyakata 2 and a half hours before your scheduled appointment for the tea ceremony workshop.

You will be able to store the clothes you wear in a locker, and once you return the kimono you can dress up again in your clothes.

You get to keep the tabi socks.

This plan entitles you to:

An attractive polyester kimono.
All strings for dressing and half-width Obi for ladies (standard Obi for men).
Bag, tabi socks and Japanese style sandals.

This plan costs ¥10500 per lady and ¥ 5500 for man and per person. In addition there will another single payment of ¥6650 for the photoshoot regardless of whether there is two of you or more. Payment is due after confirmation of your booking. We will send you a PayPal invoice. You can pay via PayPal or Credit Card even if you do not have a PayPal account.

Please note:

Bookings for this plan must be made at least 5 days before the day of attendance.
Children can be accommodated at the same price as adults. The child minimum height for the kimono is 85 cm. There are no kimonos available for children lower than 85 cm in heights.

PLAN YOUR DAY

If you are happy with this plan and wish to make a reservation enquiry please fill in the adjacent or below ENQUIRY FORM and we will check availability with the Kimono Rental Company for the day you have chosen. You incur no charge or commitment at this stage.

If you choose this plan you will spend about one hour for choosing and wearing your kimono, plus another hour for having your hair styled and face makeup. You will therefore need to go to the Kimono Rental Shop at least 2.5 hours before your appointed time.

Please note that this choice will take up all of your morning and more. We recommend that you target an early morning appointment and leave the walk around Kyoto for after the tea ceremony and photoshoot. It is likely that your tea ceremony attendance will be the 12:30pm session. Therefore you will finish around 2pm. Plan your day accordingly.

MALE OR FEMALE KIMONO

COLD WEATHER TIP

If you are hiring the kimono during the winter months of December to middle of March we strongly recommend that you wear a thermal vest underneath else you may feel cold walking around.

If you did not bring one with you then you can buy one from the Uni Qlo chain shops.

There is one such shop in Yodobashi Electrical Megastore next to the Kyoto Tower on the 4th floor.

For a thermal vest expect to pay from ¥1300 to ¥2000.

PHOTOSHOOT

The photoshoot will take place in the Grand Tea Room at the end of the tea ceremony workshop. The photographer will be in attendance and will take a 15 minutes photoshoot of you, and/or your party, in different poses with and without the tea ceremony utensils.

About 25 photos will be taken during the 15-minutes photoshoot. This time is sufficient for a couple or a party of up to 4 persons.

For parties greater than 4 persons, 15 minutes is not sufficient. In such cases we will let you know and make suggestions for prolonging the photoshoot time on an ad-hoc basis.

PHOTO ALBUM

We cannot provide you a traditional printed photo album because of time constraints and cost.

What we provide you two days after the photoshoot is a link and password to access a secure website for you to view and download your photos.

Two folders will be available on the cloud server:

A high resolution folder of all the photos taken by the photographer.
-Each photo has resolution of 5760 x 3840 pixels
-Each original photo file is on average 11 Megabytes.
Also, a lower resolution folder of all photos taken by the photographer.
-Each photo has resolution of 1500 x 1000 pixels, therefore a large size photo.
-Each large photo has a file size of around 450 Kilobytes.
You can download your individual photos or the whole folder albums over 30 days. Hence you will have plenty of time to do so after you return home.

SUGGESTION

If you are a couple of friends, or a honeymoon couple, and wish to have a super memorable and lifelong day then we suggest, weather permitting, to complement the photoshoot with an additional 1-hour photoshoot at the picturesque Shosei-en Garden.

There are beautiful ponds, wooden bridges, national heritage tearooms, unfortunately closed to the public, trees and flower beds that provide the background for a truly artistic composition of your photos. If you have the opportunity and the affordability for this service, we strongly recommend it. You will never regret the experience and it will remain in your memory and portfolio for the rest of your life.

We need to organise this event for you on an ad-hoc basis. But basically it would unfold as follows:

1- After the workshop session we order a tax to take you to the Shosei-en garden. It takes 10 minutes to walk there from our Tearoom but it is preferable to take a taxi and arrive there refreshed.

2- There are entrance fees to be paid and we will take care of that and the taxi, too.

3- The photographer will meet you there and spend a full hour with you to take photos around several spots inside the large garden.

4- You can expect some 200 photos to be taken.

5- The cost should be around US$200 for this service but we would provide you a firm cost once we know your details.

This experience only works if the weather is dry and preferably sunny or bright. If it should be wet then the photoshoot would have to be cancelled or postponed to another time if your itinerary permits it.

GEISHA MAKEUP

Geisha makeup

Geisha makeup consists in having your face and neck covered in a white thickish foundation as shown in the photo. The lips are always vivid red and the sides of the eyes and eyebrows also have a red tinge. A special kimono is also necessary as the standard kimono cut round the neck is tight and the white foundation would rub onto the collar of the standard kimono.

The added cost of a Geisha makeup is around ¥15000 plus tax for the special kimono and another ¥5000 plus tax for the makeup. On account of this cost and time required we do not encourage it. Real Geisha wear this type of attire only to attend their performance at a Geisha teahouse and for a Western visitor it would look a little odd to walk round the streets in a Geisha outfit.

We recommend the complete plan, unless the purpose of wearing a Geisha outfit is for a long studio photoshoot session.
